It's not that those trustees foresee the "old system" lasting that long - that may do, but that isn't the point. UK charity law requires registered charities to have such a reserves policy statement. Atheist quote? the Giles Fraser who wrote the piece from which it is snipped is the Rev Dr Giles Fraser, until recently Canon of St Paul's Cathedral, London.
He is very much on the liberal wing of the church and is a frequent contributor to the early morning, "Thought for day" slot on BBC radio 4. I doubt whether he would
describe himself as an atheist, but he is definitely in a minority within the church. More like him are desperately needed!

it's obsious the wts version is out of the question for me.
The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) is one of the best available at present, but all versions have their good and bad points. I would suggest that you avoid versions which make a lot of use of paraphrase which often sarcifices meaning for the sake of readability. (such as the Good News Bible) These are OK as a second version to have but not as your only study version.
A very useful website is: http://www.biblegateway.com/ where you can look up passages in several different versions.
sorry to ask, but i have tried searching it on here and haven't come up with the first instance of the expounding of the idea , based on malachi 3, that jesus inspected, and approved ratherfraud and gang in 1918.. i would guess it is first in a rutherford book, and later in the wt ?.
i would like to read the idea as it was first expressed as new light (tm) and any changes to the teaching in subsequent years, can anybody help ?.
this is only academic interest so don't break your neck helping, but it may prove of interest to many to see the basis of the idea, a doctrine that in recent years is never explained , just referenced as fact, a bit like 1914 is..
The Finished Mystery is the first WT publication to identify 1918 (see pp 393ff) in the part on Ezekiel written by George Fisher. Fisher saw it as the date for the destructionof the churches of Christendom. Rutherford picked up the date in The Harp of God but at that stage he only identified it as the end of 40 years harvest of the Gospel age (which began in 1878) You have to be cautious about basing any definite conclusions concerning WT beliefs of the period on The Finished Mystery because it is a thoroughly muddled and confused book and the two authors (Clayton J Woodworth and George Fisher) seem tohave come up with two different ways to extend the fulfilments of prophecy into the post-war period. Fisher soon fell out of favour but Woodworth remained in an influential position - even though their book had been a considerable embarrassment to Rutherford who had comissioned the writing.

It is written for kids but it's great for adults as well. This guy is a really gifted teacher
and this book is quite unputdownable.

that you are really keen on, not just one that will be useful.
